🖌️ Textures

We will be working with the following textures:

  • 🐻 Fur
  • 🪨 Woods / Stones
  • 🟫 Plastic

Fur 🐻

For fur, I recommend using 5 colors, as with most textures! You should know how to use noise in the texture to make it look good!

Here's an example of how to create a fur texture! As you can see, you just add shadow where it makes sense to have brightness and shadows!

Woods / Stones 🪨

For these textures, I recommend using 5 colors if possible, but if not, you can use more since capturing the essence of texture with a carved or slightly rustic style, I recommend using multiple colors. In the case of this example, I only used 6.

Plastic Textures 🟫

I recommend using 5 colors, just like in the case of fur, but here trying to reduce the level of detail as you can see in the example!

At the bottom of the 3 textures, we can see a cube that appears to be missing a side. However, in this case, that side is intentionally removed so that it will look good when placed next to the same type of block. You won't see a line of 2 pixels in the middle, only a line of 1 pixel.

I already mentioned checking the color documentation, but I'll mention it again here because it's very important to be knowledgeable about this. That way, your textures will have a more appealing look.

Combining Colors

Combining colors in Blockbench is very easy. Adjust the opacity of the brush, reduce it, and thus combine the selected color with another!

Mixels in Textures.

What is a Mixel? It's the combination of two texture resolutions, which doesn't look very good, to say the least. Always try to maintain a resolution.

There you can clearly see how I combined two resolutions with another, and in the other example, I just kept it simple.
